The Grand Slam of Curling

The Grand Slam of Curling is one of the most prestigious annual curling series, showcasing the top-ranked men’s and women’s teams from around the world. Since its inception in 2001-02, it has become a cornerstone of competitive curling, offering a thrilling lineup of events for fans and athletes alike.

The Grand Slam of Curling has been an innovator of the sport as the first league to trial such concepts as thinking time; changing the number of ends per game to eight; the five-rock rule; and the no-tick, free-guard zone.

The series originally featured four major events — the Canadian Open, Masters, National, and Players’ Championship. Over the years, the Grand Slam has expanded, with women’s divisions added to all majors by 2012 and the creation of new events. The Tour Challenge, with its two-tier system, allows the next generation of teams and local talent to compete on arena ice, with Tier 2 winners earning promotion to future events with covered travel and accommodations.

The Grand Slam of Curling creates an engaging experience for fans. The Jackpot City Casino lounge offers prime viewing at ice level, while the Après Curl keeps the excitement alive with post-match entertainment. Additionally, the JR. GSOC and Future Rockstars programs provide opportunities for young curlers to learn from the sport’s elite, nurturing future stars and growing the sport across communities.

Operating under Curling Canada’s “Rules of Curling for Officiated Play,” including the innovative five-rock, free-guard zone, the Grand Slam continues to push the boundaries of the sport with groundbreaking trials like thinking time and eight-end games. Teams qualify based on the World Curling Federation’s World Team Ranking system, ensuring that only the best compete in these coveted events.
